Goodreads Summary:
There was blood on his hands. Where was the guilt in his eyes?

Emmie's had a crush on her best friend's brother forever. Deacon is the town bad boy who's always in trouble, but she sees his soft side when he volunteers with her at the local animal shelter. She doesn't think he's dangerous…until he shows up in her bedroom with blood on his hands.

Deacon's father has been violently assaulted and Deacon is suspect number one. Emmie's smart enough to know how this looks, but she also knows Deacon's biggest secret—he's paralyzed by the sight of blood. She's sure he didn't do this. Or did he? Because even Deacon's own sister thinks he's guilty...

Natalie is my go-to author in terms of mystery books. She writes in a way that makes you beg for answers.  The "I have to know and I have to finish this" kind of book. I love all her books so far. My Secret to Tell will be my third book by her. I know I am gonna love it!
They are all pretty on both the inside and outside!
So, if you have not read Natalie's books, you can still catch up. They are not part of a series so you can start reading her books in no particular order.
Trust me, they are irresistible! You would not want to put them down.
Meanwhile, I will be waiting for the release date of My Secret to Tell like this Corgi over here   ̶

About Natalie D. Richards:
Natalie D. Richards won her first writing competition in the second grade with her short story about Barbara Frances Bizzlefishes (who wouldn't dare do the dishes.) Now she writes about awesome girls, broody boys, and all things dark and creepy. When she's not writing or shopping her manuscripts, you can probably find her wading through the towers of dog-eared paperbacks that have taken over her bedroom. Natalie lives in Ohio (Go Bucks!) with her techno-wiz husband, three amazing kids, and a seventy pound dust-mop who swears he's the family dog.

Interview + Giveaway: Karen Katchur (Author of THE SECRETS OF LAKE ROAD)

Today on Carmel & Kyla, we have a very special guest!!! *squeals* And it's no other than...

Karen Katchur

For those who don't know Karen, well, she's a new author. Her debut novel is called The Secrets of Lake Road. It was just recently published by Thomas Dunne Books. To know more about Karen and her debut novel, just keep on scrolling down. :D

Karen Katchur holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from West Chester University and a Masters of Education degree in Health and Physical Education from East Stroudsburg University. She lives in Eastern Pennsylvania with her husband and two children. She enjoys running and tennis. THE SECRETS OF LAKE ROAD is her first novel.

1. Hello, Miss Katchur! It's truly an honor to have you here on my blog. The Secrets of Lake Road is your debut novel. For those who don't know about it, could you tell us more about it?

Thank you so much for having me! SECRETS [of Lake Road] is about first love, lost innocence and the destructive power of buried secrets, not only within a family, but also within an entire community.

2. In a few words or so, describe the main characters of the book, Jo and Caroline.

Jo is a thirty-two-year-old wife and mother of two. For sixteen years she’s kept a secret about what really happened the night her teenage boyfriend drowned. Her guilt surrounding his death has prevented her from moving forward, and in the process, adversely affects the relationships she has with her family and everyone connected to her.

Caroline is twelve-years-old and trapped between childhood and adolescence. She doesn’t understand why her mother is distant and unavailable. When a little girl disappears from the beach, Caroline is tossed from the security of childhood into a world that she suddenly sees as unsafe.

3. What was your inspiration in writing The Secrets of Lake Road?

When I was a kid I enjoyed many summers at a lake in the Poconos, but not nearly as much as my sister and our late grandmother. It was their love of the lake and its community that inspired this book.

4. Recommend your book [The Secrets of Lake Road] to the readers.

I hope readers will enjoy THE SECRETS OF LAKE ROAD because it is both a family drama ripe with a mother/daughter conflict as well as a mystery. I hope they come away from the novel feeling as if they experienced some of the nostalgia of having spent summer vacations with their own family and friends. And I hope the suspense keeps them turning the pages!

5. Lastly, what is your message/piece of advice to those aspiring writers?

My message to aspiring writers is to keep writing and improving your craft, and to never give up. I’m not sure who said this and I’m paraphrasing, but I believe it’s true. “The only difference between a published writer and an unpublished writer is that the published writer never gave up.”

A haunting story about the destructive power of secrets, this accomplished and gripping suspenseful women's fiction debut is perfect for fans of Lisa Scottoline and Heather Gudenkauf

Jo has been hiding the truth about her role in her high school boyfriend’s drowning for sixteen years. Every summer, she drops her children off with her mother at the lakeside community where she spent summers growing up, but cannot bear to stay herself; everything about the lake reminds her of the guilt she feels. For her daughter Caroline, however, the lake is a precious world apart; its familiarity and sameness comforts her every year despite the changes in her life outside its bounds. At twelve years old and caught between childhood and adolescence, she longs to win her mother’s love and doesn’t understand why Jo keeps running away.

Then seven-year-old Sara Starr goes missing from the community beach. Rescue workers fail to uncover any sign of her—but instead dredge up the bones Jo hoped would never be discovered, shattering the quiet lakeside community’s tranquility. Caroline was one of the last people to see Sara alive on the beach, and feels responsible for her disappearance. She takes it upon herself to figure out what happened to the little girl. As Caroline searches for Sara, she uncovers the secrets her mother has been hiding, unraveling the very foundation of everything she knows about herself and her family. The Secrets of Lake Road by Karen Katchur is a riveting novel that is impossible to put down and hard to forget.

The diary that paints a much more sinister version of events than was ever made publicly known.

About Dawn Kurtagich:
Dawn Kurtagich is a writer of creepy, spooky and psychologically sinister YA fiction, where girls may descend into madness, boys may see monsters in men, and grown-ups may have something to hide. Her debut YA novel, The Dead House, is forthcoming from Orion/Indigo (UK) and Little, Brown Books for Young Readers (US) in 2015.
By the time she was eighteen, she had been to fifteen schools across two continents. The daughter of a British globe-trotter and single mother, she grew up all over the place, but her formative years were spent in Africa—on a mission, in the bush, in the city and in the desert.
She has been lucky enough to see an elephant stampede at close range, a giraffe tongue at very close range, and she once witnessed the stealing of her (and her friends’) underwear by very large, angry baboons. (This will most definitely end up in a book . . . ) While she has quite a few tales to tell about the jumping African baboon spider, she tends to save these for Halloween!
When she was sixteen, she thought she'd be an astronomer and writer at the same time, and did a month-long internship at Cambridge's prestigious Cavendish Laboratories.
She writes over at the YA Scream Queens, a young adult blog for all things horror and thriller, and she is a member of the YA League. Her life reads like a YA novel.

This is not the first dossier type of book I have heard of. I think those kinds of books are becoming a trend nowadays. Do you like it when books are visually entertaining?

The youngest of six talented sisters, Elyse d’Abreau was destined for stardom—until a boating accident took everything from her. Now, the most beautiful singer in Tobago can’t sing. She can’t even speak.

Seeking quiet solitude, Elyse accepts a friend’s invitation to Atargatis Cove. Named for the mythical first mermaid, the Oregon seaside town is everything Elyse’s home in the Caribbean isn’t: An ocean too cold for swimming, parties too tame for singing, and people too polite to pry—except for one.

Christian Kane is a notorious playboy—insolent, arrogant, and completely charming. He’s also the only person in Atargatis Cove who doesn’t treat Elyse like a glass statue. He challenges her to express herself, and he admires the way she treats his younger brother Sebastian, who believes Elyse is the legendary mermaid come to life.

When Christian needs a first mate for the Cove’s high-stakes Pirate Regatta, Elyse reluctantly stows her fear of the sea and climbs aboard. The ocean isn’t the only thing making waves, though—swept up in Christian’s seductive tide and entranced by the Cove’s charms, Elyse begins to wonder if a life of solitude isn’t what she needs. But changing course again means facing her past. It means finding her inner voice. And scariest of all, it means opening her heart to a boy who’s best known for breaking them . . .

Sarah Ockler is the bestselling author of six young adult novels: The Summer of Chasing Mermaids, #scandal, The Book of Broken Hearts, Bittersweet, Fixing Delilah, and Twenty Boy Summer. Her books have been translated into several languages and have received numerous accolades, including ALA's Best Fiction for Young Adults, Girls' Life Top 100 Must Reads, Indie Next List, and nominations for YALSA Teens' Top Ten and NPR's Top 100 Teen Books.

Sarah is a champion cupcake eater, tea drinker, night person, and bookworm. When she's not writing or reading at home in Washington, she enjoys taking pictures, hugging trees, and road-tripping through the country with her husband, Alex.
